The Metropolitan Interfaith Council on Affordable Housing
MICAH works with area churches to promote the building and preservation of affordable housing in local cities, Dakota County, and Minnesota. There are two MICAH groups in Northern Dakota County: MICAH-South which includes people from various congregations in Burnsville, Apple Valley, Eagan, Rosemount, Lakeville, and Farmington.

What is MICAH?
Religious leaders, community members and low income housing developers founded MICAH in 1988 in response to the accelerating homeless crisis. Through MICAH, more than 150 congregations from Jewish, Christian and Muslim faith traditions organize for justice in housing. We envision a metropolitan area where everyone without exception has a safe, decent and affordable place to call home.
What does MICAH believe?
• That God calls us to care about our neighbors and our communities.
• That being true to our faith means transforming faith into action at the public policy level.
What does MICAH do?
MICAH lives out the prophetic vision that calls us "to do justice, to love mercy and to walk humbly with God". (Micah 6:8). We act in our cities, counties, the region and the state legislature to create resources and policies to build affordable homes and to reduce the barriers to building affordable housing. MICAH has built relationships, established ourselves as an affordable housing resource, given decision-makers essential guideposts against which to make sound choices, built our credibility at the local level, and developed a history of affordable housing campaign victories
What are some of the results of MICAH's work?
• 4,371 families have an affordable home because MICAH leaders spoke up of their development or preservation.
• 20% set-aside policy. Minneapolis housing policy now guarantees that all new housing development with 10 or more units will set aside 20% of those units as affordable. It also targets the city's housing dollars to individuals earning below 50% of the metropolitan median income (MMI).
• 27 land use plans have been strengthened to reduce regulatory barriers to affordable housing, including inclusionary zoning, increased housing densities, and reducing development fees.
• In coalition, we increased state appropriations by $52 million for affordable housing programs.
• We increased local investment in affordable housing by supporting the Minneapolis Housing Trust Fund and incentive funds in Anoka, Dakota, Hennepin and Ramsey counties.
Please join us TODAY to ensure MORE children, and parents and elders in our communities have a safe, affordable place to live.
